Which surfaces need special attention?
Visible faces, contact areas and mating features may need different requirements.

Working on a similar requirement?
Bring the drawing and open questions into the discussion.
Identify surfaces by function
Not every face has the same job. Some are visible, some locate another part and others carry an electrical or mechanical contact. Show these differences on the drawing or an annotated reference.
A photo can explain appearance expectations, but it should accompany a written finish requirement.
- Visible faces
- Mating and seating surfaces
- Protected contact areas
Define the final condition
Specify where acceptance requirements apply after treatment. If a dimension or interface is sensitive to the final surface condition, mark that requirement clearly.
Include the finishing specification, masking instructions and any appearance criteria in the same controlled drawing package.
Make acceptance practical
Describe what needs to be reviewed and documented. If an approved reference sample or customer procedure is part of acceptance, identify it during quotation.
Confirm the packing requirements for surfaces that need protection from contact or movement during transport.
- Finish specification and reference
- Appearance acceptance criteria
- Protection and packing requirements
PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
Keep the requirement with the drawing.
Include the current revision, material, quantity and any inspection or finishing requirements when you send your project.
